Unit
Etelvina Caetano de Jesus
Founded in: 1978
Meaning behind the name: The name was chosen in honor of Mrs. Etelvina, who generously offered the courtyard of her home so that Rosa could welcome the first children in need of care.
Our Story: Faced with the challenges experienced by families in the Boa União community and inspired by her close relationship with local women, Rosa devoted herself to caring for and educating children while supporting single mothers. She soon realized that families needed a safe and welcoming place where their children could spend the day.
The first activities took place in the backyard of Mrs. Etelvina's home, where about 50 children were welcomed into a modest space affectionately known as Comecinho de Vida ("Beginning of Life").
As demand continued to grow, the local community joined forces to adapt a warehouse near the Onça Stream, providing a larger and more suitable environment for the children. In 1987, the initiative was formally established as a nonprofit organization. Over the following years, it relocated several times and completed important legal and administrative processes with the support of institutional partners.
In 2021, severe flooding caused extensive damage to the facility. Thanks to the commitment of staff, volunteers, and the local community, the center was restored and its activities resumed in a remarkably short time, ensuring continued support for the children and their families.
